Wildlife Conservation in Africa: the New Way Forward
“Take urgent action to end poaching and trafficking of protected species of flora and fauna and address both demand and supply of illegal wildlife products.” SDG 15- LIFE ON LAND
• Of the estimated 415,000 Wild elephants on the continent, approximately 55 African Elephants are poached every day.
• Due to rampant poaching for Rhino horn, there are only two Northern White Rhinos left in the world, both of which are female.
• With approximately 23,000 lions left in the wild, African lions face extinction by 2050.
African Symposium’s Inaugural Forum on Wildlife Conservation in Africa is launching on March 3, 2020, on the United Nations designated World Wildlife Day and in line with Sustainable Development Goal 15. The forum especially focuses on opportunities for the African Diaspora community and friends to play a more active, engaged and visible role. As a result of this gathering, we also aim to derive a best- practice guide to help attendees make responsible and informed choices in protecting our planet and its inhabitants.
The United Nations General Assembly has designated March 3 as World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild fauna and flora, and to recognize the intrinsic value of wildlife and its various contributions to sustainable development and human well-being.
**The agenda is subject to change and each session is followed by a Q&A
**Space is limited. Please register early.
** The Forum will close with a Networking Reception
OUR FOUNDER
As the founder and experienced conference producer and events curator, I assist businesses, governments, and non-profit organizations with developing substantial and well-organized events internationally and in various sectors. Throughout my career, I have produced and been involved in putting together numerous Africa related events ranging in size from 20 to 8000 people in attendance. The topics of these events range from African Art events, investment and business networking events, film screenings, presidential events to international conferences. As of late, I am excited to launch the Annual Wildlife Conservation in Africa: The New Way Forward conference, an interactive convening of experts, diplomats, activists and compassionate citizens, to discuss wildlife conservation in Africa. African Symposium’s events are designed to bring together the African diaspora and those interested in Africa to network and drive investment to the continent.
