Of the estimated 415,000 Wild elephants, approximately 55 African Elephants are poached on the continent every day.

Due to rampant poaching for Rhino horn, there are only two northern white rhinos left in the world, both of which are female.

With approximately 23,000 lions left in the wild, African Lions Face Extinction by 2050.

The Annual African Symposium is an interactive convening of experts, diplomats, activists and compassionate citizens, to discuss wildlife conservation efforts in Africa through the lens of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15- Life on Land. This is an Interactive half-day conference (available after each session) followed by a networking reception.

“Take urgent action to end poaching and trafficking of protected species of flora and fauna and address both demand and supply of illegal wildlife products.” SDG 15- LIFE ON LAND

On the heels of CITESCoP18 and the United Nations General Assembly, African Symposium’s Inaugural Forum on Wildlife Conservation in Africa will take place on World Animal Day and in line with SDG 15.7.1. The forum will especially focus on opportunities for the African Diaspora community and friends to play a more active, engaged and visible role. As a result of this gathering, we also aim to derive a best-practice guide that will help attendees make responsible and informed choices in protecting our planet and its inhabitants.

Since October 4, 1925, World Animal Day is celebrated annually to mobilize people for action for a better future for animals. October 4 is also celebrated as the day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology & animals.
